Carers Support Group

he Carers Support Group is run by an experienced Coordinator, with many years supporting families and individuals in their roles of being Carers. Having worked in the fields of disability and mental health, the Coordinator has a wealth of knowledge to assist Carers, and being a Carer herself enables her to offer first-hand peer support.

These monthly meetings provide caregivers with dedicated time for socialising and respite, often rare time when Carers can relax, and step away from their role for a short time, offering support and respite on a small and personal basis for a regular group of attendees, where there is familiarity amongst the carers who feel that they are in a safe, comfortable and caring environment.

Rural Care Link subsidises the regular Carer outings, pleased that our philosophy to promote a sense of belonging where there is understanding and acceptance, is being put into practice.

We readily share information about services available-whether in the Greater Hume or Albury local areas, State-wide or Nationally).

Carers Plus Program

The Carers Plus Program is an extension of our more personalised Carer Support Program, filling a gap in our services for opportunities to reach wider rural audiences, providing an option for 2 to 3 larger events to be held per year. Carers Plus is comprised of 2 Committee Members plus the Carer Support Coordinator, with additional volunteer support sourced when we hold events.

We identify needs, and welcome suggestions from our community, to create events, workshops, education or information sessions, around those topics where the wider community can come together and benefit- some examples being- mental and physical health and well-being, chronic illness, Dementia, general self-care, understanding and navigating welfare systems, and related topics.

We collaborate with outside agencies and organisations, sourcing professional presenters, qualified in their fields. With the emphasis on keeping things relevant to local issues, as our name says, we aim to provide ‘Rural Care’ and promote strength in the ‘links’ between our wider regional community members.

Look for upcoming events on our Jindera News Rural Care Link segment and our Website Blog Page. If you would like to offer your voluntary assistance, please contact our Office during Opening Hours or leave a message.

Comments from our Carers

“The Carers Support Group gives me a chance to meet other Carers who are dealing with similar issues as to what I am. I look forward to the gathering each Month. “

“I came along to the Carer Support feeling quite despondent with my Caring Role. It was a comfort to be with other people and listen to their experiences. The support that I have got from the Facilitator has been so helpful. She has a lot of knowledge about services for Carers, has a great way with including people and has helped me so much in my caring role with my adult son.”

“The Carers Group has provided so many great opportunities for me to meet other Carers. I have enjoyed everything from Morning Tea gatherings, Movie outings, Barbecues. I especially like the drumming session that I went to at the Village Green. I would encourage anyone in the community who needs some help in their role of caring to come along.”

“The group facilitator is always so welcoming and positive. As she is a Carer herself and has worked with people in need for many years, I really value her when I need information or just a chat. “

“We as Carers really appreciate that Rural Care Link provides us with respite in the way of paying for our outings. It is really something to feel valued in this way. It can be isolating and lonely at times and meeting with other Carers is something to look forward to.”
